UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT

GlobalGAP

The Global Compact is an initiative of the United Nations that was presented by the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 1999.
Its goal is to promote social dialogue in order to create a global corporative citizenship that would allow companies to conciliate their interests and their values along with social civil demands, ONU projects, trade unions and nongovernmental organizations, based on 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

THE TEN PRINCIPLES
Human Rights
1. Support and respect the protection of human rights;
2. Not be complicit in human rights abuses.

Labor
3. Uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
4. The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor;
5. The abolition of child labor;
6. The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment
7. Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
8. Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility;
9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption
10. Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

In Uruguay there is a network of Businesses that take part in the Global Compact, and LSQA belongs to it. For more information on this topic: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
