Electrical extension cords are devices used to extend the connection between an electrical appliance and a fixed power outlet. They are covered by URSEA’s electrical safety regulations and must comply with the Electrical Accreditation and Verification System (SAVE). Their certification is mandatory because:
- Prevents electrical risks such as overheating, short circuits, or shocks caused by faulty connections.
- Verifies that the product complies with international standards such as IEC 60884-1, assessing the quality of the cable, plug, socket outlet, and insulation.
- Controls key technical aspects such as current rating, conductor cross-section, mechanical and thermal resistance, and the proper functioning of the assembly.
- Is a legal requirement for their import, manufacture, commercialization, and installation in Uruguay, as established by URSEA.
- Ensures users have a safe, reliable product compatible with the national electrical system.
- Contributes to the responsible and safe use of electrical extensions in homes, offices, shops, and industries.
