Angus Certified Angus Beef Program

Angus Beef Certification is a program that ensures the beef comes from Aberdeen Angus cattle raised under strict protocols that guarantee product quality, traceability, and distinctive characteristics. This program is internationally recognized, and certified beef has been exported to multiple international markets, strengthening its global prestige.

Obtaining this certification is key because:

  • Ensures breed authenticity by verifying that the animals meet the phenotypic characteristics of the Angus breed.
  • Guarantees product quality by assessing aspects such as marbling, tenderness, and flavor.
  • Promotes sustainable production practices aligned with animal welfare and pasture-based feeding.
  • Facilitates access to demanding international markets, where Angus certification is synonymous with superior quality.
  • Differentiates the product in the market through the use of recognized seals such as “Breed Verification,” “Premium,” and “Certified Angus Beef.”

LSQA offers Angus Beef audit and certification services, supporting organizations in implementing and maintaining management systems that meet the required standards.

¿Qué es Angus?

What is Angus certification?

The program verifies, both in the field and at the meatpacking plant, that the animals meet the characteristics of the Angus breed (black or red, with at least 50% Angus blood in the case of hornless, polled, or movable horns) and carcass quality specifications: classification, fat cover, and marbling, among others. There is also a Grassfed Angus variant, which, in addition to the breed and quality requirements, verifies that the animals were pasture-raised, without confinement, with complete traceability from the field to the final product.

The certification allows the product to be labelled as "Certified Angus Beef" or "Uruguayan Angus Beef," a designation that assures the consumer of the breed's authenticity and the consistency of the product's quality, facilitating its arrival without alterations to demanding markets and consumers worldwide.

Verification is not limited to the field: it continues during the slaughter and production at the meatpacking plant, ensuring that the final cuts meet the program's standards.

Endorsement of the Breeders' Society

The program is supported by the Uruguayan Aberdeen Angus Breeders Society, with over 60 years of experience in the country, which provides technical authority on the breed.
