ISO 29993 defines the requirements that a Learning Service Provider (LSP) must meet to design, deliver, and evaluate quality training services. It covers all types of lifelong learning, whether face-to-face, technology-mediated, or blended, including in-house or outsourced training.
Unlike management system standards, ISO 29993 does not assess the organization as a whole, but specifically the learning service it provides: how it defines training objectives, how it designs and delivers content, how it assesses participants, and how it continually improves its services. It is not aimed at schools, colleges, or universities within the formal education system, although it can serve as a self-assessment tool for them.

The ISO 29993 certification process with LSQA, from application to certificate issuance, typically takes between two and four months, depending on the size and complexity of the organization. This timeframe includes service coordination, Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits, report preparation (up to 15 days after the audit), and, if applicable, the time for the organization to present and demonstrate the effectiveness of corrective actions for any nonconformities.
